I purchased a Mac Mini with the following specifications for my home recording studio: The Apple M4 Pro processor features a 12-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 48GB of unified memory, and 1TB of SSD storage.

So far, so good, however I've heard of fan noise being a problem in my studio (which I haven't encountered yet).

I figured the Mini would be the way to go since I already had a studio monitor, magic keyboard 2, and magic mouse 2.I have an M1 Macbook Air for portable internet and daily use.

Anyway, I'm thinking about returning the mini and getting a 14" MacBook Pro; I'd use it in clamshell mode in the studio and then be able to take it with me when needed.

Matching the Mini's specifications to the MBA would cost more, but it may be worthwhile in my situation. Are there any reports of fan noise on the MacBook Pro in clamshell?

Also, are there any upgrades worth doing to the MBP? i.e. switching to 14 cores instead of 12?

Pro Tools and Ableton are my major tools for music creation.
Recording, a fair number of mixing plugins, and the occasional use of software instruments.

Any views or recommendations would be appreciated!
