Topic:
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Righteousness and holiness cannot be separated from Christ. They are essential constituents of His very nature, as God Almighty. During our analysis of this aspect of His Name, we established the fact that the sceptre of His Kingdom, is a sceptre of righteousness (Hebrews 1:8). It is one of the foremost features which characterize His systems and structures of governance, as the Head of the royal Kingdom of Heaven. Before telling us to "put on" the "new man", in today's Focus Text, we are first instructed to "put off" the "old man" (Ephesians 4:22).
The Greek term for put off here, is apekduomai, which literally means, "to strip off oneself; divest, or renounce." The Greek term for "put on", in verse 24, is enduo, which means, "to invest with clothing; array or clothe with." Both instructions are a clear communication of God's Spirit, for us to switch our sense of identity, from what we used to be before getting born again, to what are now, in Christ Jesus. Sandwiched between these two instructions, is the order to be renewed in the spirit of our mind (Ephesians 4:23). This renewal is the key to effectively transitioning from the old way of seeing ourselves, to our current joint identity with Christ. Since our oneness with Jesus is in His glorious Name, acknowledging that our precious Heavenly Father, has recreated us in the exact image of His first begotten Son, is very crucial.
Grasping and assimilating the scriptural information and revelation of our righteousness and holy status in Christ, are the keys to actually practising righteousness and untainted holiness. There is no need for us to struggle in doing this. This is why you must make daily meditation in the eternal Word of God, your dearest commitment and topmost priority. Once this divine reality sinks deep into your consciousness, and embodies your conviction, living the kind of life that reflects God's righteous nature, will become your experience and testimony.
