Recall that Trump had previously applied for immunity from criminal prosecution for the January 6, 2021 riots. However, a lower court rejected it at the time.
Now, however, the Supreme Court has affirmed Trump's absolute immunity. Thus, law enforcement cannot prosecute the former president for the events that took place at the Capitol.
Trump celebrated the court's decision on his social media, "A great victory for our constitution and democracy. Proud to be an American!".
