To the best of my knowledge, UWB position finding is not supported by any Find My suitable third-party trackers. Thus, this is one of the main ways that the Airtag differs.

I'm looking for a wallet finder that is shaped like a card. I recently discovered a five-year-old tile that I hadn't enabled for the purpose of tracking my wallet. I mounted the Tile onto my small wallet, which has thin, flat aluminum sides, using 3M glue. This is something that can be done with the Tile but not with an AirTag because the latter is too rounded to make it practical. Additionally, the tile appears to be around 6mm thinner than the AirTag, in my opinion.

Actually, this works extremely well. I can also click my phone to find it in an emergency, which is amusing because the airtag wouldn't allow me do that. However, I'm much more concerned with the UWB direction finding than I am with that.

The ideal course of action is obviously to perform surgery on an airtag and reduce its size to that of a 3 to 4 mm thick 3D printed card; numerous designs are available for free printing on your own or for purchase on Etsy and other websites.

I would like to know if there is a design for this that can use two, three, or even four CR2032s. Or even CR2025s if space is at a premium. We *clearly* have the physical space to support this with a card form factor. Would anyone be interested in hacking this with me? The obvious solution is to wire the batteries in parallel, which enables it to work with any number of batteries. My initial plan is to arrange a bank of batteries on the positive terminal so that they are in contact with each other, requiring only one wire for +. This should allow us to have an airtag with four years of UWB findability capabilities and replaceable batteries—the holy grail of Bluetooth trackers.

This might soon become outdated because I anticipate Apple releasing an AirTag 2 in card form factor, but I believe that being able to accept three or more CR2032s will make it much more relevant regardless of whether Apple ultimately wins the design contest for the AirTags 2.
