The latest AirPods 4 and AirPods Max have been disassembled by experts from the iFixit. Their research indicates that the AirPods 4 still have an excessive amount of glue and an overly dense assembly inside, whilst the AirPods Max are identical save for the charging connector.
The more potent microphone is the only distinction between the AirPods 4 with and without noise cancellation. The Type-C port is the only internal distinction between the AirPods 3 and 4.
The USB-C port is the only distinction between the new-colored AirPods Max and the older model.
