I'm working on the I-90 form to renew my daughter's green card, who is now 15 years old. Less than six months remain till her card expires, which is before her sixteenth birthday. When she reached 14, we didn't submit a renewal application.
I have a question about Part 2 of I-90.
What would be the purpose for the filling? 2.j, 2.f, or 2.g1?
2. Since the card expires before her sixteenth birthday, G.1 is not applicable.
The instructions are as follows:
Item Number 2.g.2. I am enrolling as needed since I turned 14 years old. My current card is about to expire before I turn sixteen. (NOTE: You must choose reason "2.j" if you are submitting this application before your 14th birthday or more than 30 days after your 14th birthday.
However, you must choose reason “2.f.” if your card has expired. If you are at least 14 years old and your existing card will expire before you turn 16, choose this option. Provide a copy of your most recent Permanent Resident Card when claiming this exemption. If you are filing under reason "2.g.2," you must include the filing fee and the biometric services fee with your application.
Only if your present card was issued before the age of 14 and you are submitting this application for registration purposes may you choose this reason. Within 30 days of a youngster turning 14, they must register and have their fingerprints taken. A lawful permanent resident is required to register and complete Form I-90 after turning 14.
My current card has either expired or will expire in six months, according to item number 2.f. If your card has already expired or will expire within the next six months, choose this reason. Your application can be rejected if you give this excuse and your current card doesn't expire within six months.
Item 2.j. I am applying to replace my present Permanent Resident Card for a reason not listed above, or I already have an Alien Registration Card from a previous edition.
