When you keep malice with your wife and ignore her, deprive her of her conjugal rights, reject her food and stop spending time at home or giving her companionship, you are not punishing your wife.
You are actually teaching her independence. You are training her to be able to live without you. And if you keep doing this over time, one day, she will graduate from your school, and you will cease to have meaning in her life. Don't forget that as you age, you will need her more than she needs you.
And her children are likelier to support her than you. So, instead of teaching her to live without you, talk to her when she offends you and work things out.
