The 1958 Act of Parliament established the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and it was subsequently amended in 1991, 1993, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2007, in that order. Officially, it started operating in 1959. The Federal Government of Nigeria's monetary and financial policies are administered and controlled by the Central Bank of Nigeria, which is the country's top bank.
