FBI URGENT WARNING: DO NOT Take These Phone Calls!
Think you're speaking to the FBI? Think again. A major alert has been issued after scammers began spoofing FBI and other federal agency numbers, pretending to be law enforcement agents — and tricking Americans into sending money to avoid arrest.
"The FBI will NEVER call you to demand money. This is a scam. Hang up immediately."
The Scam in Action: How It Works
You receive a scary phone call:
- The voice says they’re with the FBI, ATF, or U.S. Marshals
- They threaten you with arrest or prosecution unless you send money, often via Apple gift cards
- They may even use real agent names and spoofed federal phone numbers to sound legit
- You're told not to tell anyone — not your family, not your bank.
If this happens: HANG UP IMMEDIATELY and REPORT IT.

ATF: “We're working with the FBI to investigate these scammers. Don’t share personal or financial info with unknown callers.”
U.S. Marshals: “We NEVER call to collect money or resolve court cases. Don’t fall for it.”
Public Alert: "HANG UP AND REPORT IT to your local FBI field office or at ic3.gov."
